Do you fit Sound Moderators?Yes, we will fit any of the commonly available moderators. What is Involved in Fitting a Moderator?On most rifles the barrel is removed from the action to ease the process. If this is not possible without marking the metalwork, we mount the action on a mandrel. Threads are cut using single-point, full profile carbide inserts. Every barrel is re-crowned after threading. Chrome Moly barrels are re-blacked to prevent the thread rusting. Stainless barrels are bead-blasted if required. All work is then proof tested at the London Proof House. Why do You Proof Test Sound Moderators?Without Proof Testing of barrel threading work, we cannot get product liability insurance. Will a Moderator affect accuracy?No, if a moderator is properly fitted there will no degradation in accuracy. Do I have to shoot my new barrel in?I would recommend that 3 groups of three shots followed by 2 groups of five shots would be enough to shoot in a matchgrade barrel due to the lack of residual tooling marks which are left in the barrel. Please remember to clean the barrel thoroughly after each group is shot. Back to TopHow often do I have to clean a new stainless barrel?The barrel should be dried out every time it gets wet as stainless steel will rust. Remove copper fouling with good solvents after every 12 to 15 rounds if possible. Back to TopDo you have a certain cleaning regime?Yes. Please refer to "Cleaning Procedures" Are there other parts of the rifle which I should be cleaning?Yes. Please read "General Rifle Care" What is the most accurate calibre?There is no doubt that it is the 6mmPPC but it should be remembered that it is not just the calibre that makes an accurate rifle. Accuracy is dependant on the quality of the rifles components and the ammunition used. For most practical purposes, including target shooting, there are many calibres that shoot well. Back to TopIs fibreglass more stable than wood?A good quality fibreglass stock which is properly bedded will not be affected by temperature or humidity in nearly the same way as a wooden stock. Back to TopWhat type of reloading equipment would you recommend?We do not recommend any particular brand of reloading equipment. We have used quite a variety over the years and I have put together a list of components that we use in the workshop. Please refer to Reloading Equipment. Back to TopCan you produce a repeating 6mmPPC?Not to my complete satisfaction yet but we are working on it. Back to TopDo you sell factory rifles?Yes, we can supply many of the commonly known factory rifles such as Sako, Tikka and Remington and we are happy to give practical advice if needed. Do you sell scopes?We highly recommend the Swarovski range of scopes and binoculars. We also supply other makes such as Schmidt & Bender, Nightforce and Leupold. Do you sell Actions?We do not sell the Borden manufactured "Precision Rifles" actions that we use on our custom rifles. We are willing, however, to supply Alpine & Timberline actions and we are now the official importer of these actions. Please visit their website and contact us if you need further information. Will you use Component Parts Supplied by Customers? Yes, no problem. With the growth of the internet, we are increasingly being asked to do this. Any work on customers components such as barrels, stocks and actions will be charged at a flat rate of £55 per hour.
